Who Are We?
Rescue, Extrication, Delivery, Specialists, Inc. (R.E.D.S. Team) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) , all volunteer special rescue operations team based out of Garner, N.C.
The Team began in 1986, was chartered in 1989, and then was recognized as a technical rescue team in 1991 by Wake County.
The team is a private, self-supporting organization and is not affiliated with any county or municipality.
The team is made up of volunteers from all over North Carolina who have dedicated their time to training for and responding to rescue operations.
What do we do?
The team provides emergency response to incidents throughout North Carolina involving searches for missing persons, flood and swift water rescue, dive and recovery, confined space rescue, trench and structural collapse, high angle rescue, animal rescue and specialized extrication. We also provide confined space technical response and stand by coverage for confined space work and maintenance that meets OSHA 1910.130. The team also offers special events stand by for water and medical coverage.
The team also provides specialized professional training to fire departments, rescue squads, law enforcement agencies, military, industrial and manufacturing companies.
Finally, the team participates in public safety days, parades, scouting events, demonstrations for public events and other services as requested by various public and private groups.
How is the team organized?
The team is governed by a board of directors and managed by a Chief and Assistant Chief. The team is organized in three divisions: Technical Rescue Division, Water Operations and Dive Division, Search and Canine Division. Each division is supervised by a Captain.
What are some of the teams qualifications?
The team is certified in the following specialties by the NC Association of Rescue and EMS:
- Heavy Rescue
- Confined Space Rescue
- High Angle Rescue
- Trench Rescue
- Structural Collapse Rescue
- Swiftwater Rescue
- Wilderness Search
- Dive
- Air Operations
The team meets and exceeds all requirements for these standards, as well as meets and exceeds NFPA 1060 and NFPA 1006 for Technical Rescue Operations. The team belongs to the N.C. Association of Rescue and EMS, the North Carolina Search and Rescue Advisory Council and the Wake County Rescue Chiefs Association.
