Equipment Reviews, Links & more

A Word from David Pease, Chief

My name is David Pease , I am the Chief of the R.E.D.S. Team, and I have been in Rescue & EMS for 32 years, I have had a chance to see a lot of equipment come down the tubes. I have been evaluating equipment for some time now and write articles on what I find. There is a lot of equipment on the market for rescue work, some very good, some not so good.

As rescuers, we need to be working with the best, for ourselves and our victims. You will find my equipment evaluation page in the Carolina Fire / Rescue / EMS Journal, where I test and evaluate new and existing equipment. You can see my articles by reading the Journal or visiting: www.CarolinaFireJournal.com

TechTrade

Tech Trade has some of the most highly advanced technologies on the market. Tech Trade has now introduced the new fire / extrication glove. I have been assisting with the design of glove for almost two years. This glove has remarkable dexterity and versatility. Designed as a structural firefighting glove, the glove is also an excellent extrication glove, being lined with Kevlar and constructed with Kevlar stitching. The glove was NFPA 1971 / 2000 certified for structural firefighting in August of 2006, and now the new 2007 edition has been certified. You have never worn a fire glove that will match the feel, the fit, the dexterity, or have the performance of the Pro-Tech 8. The glove can be purchased by contacting David Pease @ 919-291-6201 or email @ Reds100@aol.com .

Ready-HeatT Disposable Medical Heated Blanket

The Ready-HeatT Disposable Medical/Emergency Heated Blanket has been produced in a variety of sizes that are being manufactured using synthetic non-woven fibers. These potentially life saving blankets come individually sealed in an oxygen free protective poly-bag. When the Poly-bag is opened, the contents of the sealed in heating elements react with the oxygen in the atmosphere and generate heat. The heat that will be generated will provide sufficient warmth and comfort to the user for several hours.

Equipment Evaluation

Bosch RS20 corded reciprocating saw: This powerful saw proved to hold its weight in bus and heavy vehicle extrication. The saw has a detachable 30ft cord and a user friendly blade locking mechanism. This allows for easy blade changes while cutting in the field. The saw also has an LED light that aids in lighting up the cutting area during night operations. I found this to be a rugged and durable saw for rescue operations and reasonably priced as well. We use these saws on our Extrication Trailer for vehicle extrication classes.

Deep Cut Rescue Saw by Rescue Jacks: This electric powered metal cutting saw is strong and powerful. I not only cut the vehicles post, I cut the nader pin, the hinges, and even cut the frame. On bus extrication it cuts through the galvanized sheet metal and the skeletal system with ease. It even cut through the bottom of the bus, where the air chisel and reciprocating saws had problems.

Safety Net from MetroCall : This paging system is an excellent system for departments that are on a smaller budget and those larger departments that need the capability to contact their folks. The system provides you with a website that once accessed, you can page any or all of your members from any location. As long as they can receive text messaging, they can get a page. Members or employees can be added or taken off at anytime by the administrator for the site. Our Team uses this system for all our Team paging needs.

Introduces new line of hydraulic tools: I am currently testing and evaluating the new line of ResQtec hydraulics, and so far I have been extremely impressed. Over the next few months I will continue to use these tools in training classes to see what they can do.

I will be evaluating and writing articles on equipment again this year. I plan on evaluating reciprocating saw blades to let you know the best blades out there. I am currently evaluating the ZMag Rescue ground pads and brackets for raker shores, the FireMax Tool, and the V-Max weight vest. I will continue to keep you updated on what is out there, and if its good or not. I am a firm believer in what my Mom used to tell me, "If you can't say something good, just don't say anything at all."

Love to hear from you.
