The Team is at its new location at 1219 Patriot Drive, in Raleigh. We have been there for a little over a year now. The station is larger than the one we had in Garner and we have an outside area we use for training. With the exception of our collapse trailer, all of our equipment is now on site. There are plenty more improvements we hope to make, but as with most things, it will just take time.

We have completed the upgrade and interior of the dive trailer and it is now 100% ready. It has all new cabinets on the inside, designed to be equipment specific. The trailer also has a drying rack for boots, gloves and hoods. The BCD’s and the wetsuits can be hung wet, as their cabinets are designed with drains.  A new paint job and lettering has also been completed. Pictures of the trailer can be seen on the equipment section of the website.

The Team purchased a Zodiac boat trailer from surplus and put it in service in July. The trailer was completely sanded and repainted, along with all new lights, wiring, hitch and chains installed. The trailer holds our two 16ft Avons, and our 12ft Mercury. The trailer supports 3 outboards on the front as well. This trailer will make a nice addition to our swiftwater fleet.

We did our boat operations training at the coast in August and our swiftwater training on the Nolichucky River in September. We had great attendance for both classes and a lot of skills were learned and perfected.

The Team deployed to Halifax in September for Hurricane Hanna. We were stationed at Halifax Fire and Rescue just off interstate 95. We were responsible for 8 counties covering almost 4000 square miles. We worked with the NC National Guard for a 24hr stand by. The storm did not provide enough rain to cause any localized flooding so no missions were needed. This was a good thing for Halifax and surrounding area.

The REDS Team assisted with several water operation calls in Granville County and Falls Lake this Fall, as well as other searches throughout the year. This coming year we hope to make some additional improvements to the station, complete the 2nd boat trailer, complete the Operations Truck, and continue to train to be the best that we can be.
