Shannon threw a curve at his crew for the final exercise - he invited Jamie and Joe's Rope team to "attack" the basket squad. The basket team simulated a helicopter deployment and moved to rescue the victim, only to be set upon by the rope team sprinting across the futbol field. As you can see from the pictures, even 600 pounds will not make the Rescate soldiers lay down. Cory, Craig, and Mike Allen destroyed two fresh cars, and the Trooper that Chuck and Mike Arnold have been rolling over and over for the last few days is looking pretty ratty. David made the rounds, keeping everyone straight (his story). One more day of training to go, but given the enthusiasm of the Rescate team, there may not be any junk cars left in Guatemala if we come back next year. After class, we were driven to Antigua. The ride down was enough to take your breath away, with mountains and volcanoes and outstanding views. We walked around Antigua for a couple of hours, and every corner we turned revealed something else to shake our heads at. We then had dinner at the Casa Santo Domingo, a five-star restaurant. This place floored everyone on the team: set in ancient buildings with dazzling views from the top floor, with service and food that everyone found amazing. Major Gonzales and Lieutenant Paz took good care of us as always! This is an amazing place with some amazing people. More to come!
