Rescue of the Year 2005
In 2005 the R.E.D.S. Team was one of 25 swiftwater teams that received the Higgins and Langley Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in the field of Swiftwater Rescue for their response during the hurricanes Charlie , Frances , Ivan, and Jeanne.
The Team also received the 2005 rescue of the year award for the rescue of a woman trapped in the rubble pile of her home for almost 9 hours. The rescue took 8 hours to perform under some rather tedious conditions.
The award was given by the North Carolina Association of Rescue and EMS at their annual convention.
The R.E.D.S. Team was also nominated by the Governor for a national award for this same rescue. The rescue took great efforts of all the departments that were there and responded, as well as good teamwork. Our hats go off to all those trained and dedicated people.
