Heavy Vehicle Rescue - Coastline Rescue
June 2nd 3rd, & 4th Holden Beach, NC
The Heavy Truck Class held at Coastline Rescue in Holden Beach was an excellent opportunity to learn new lifting and stabilizing skills. It was also a great chance to learn some of the capabilities of your local wrecker and recovery services. The class was sponsored by Coastline Rescue and Brunswick Community College . It could also not have been done without the help of Phillips Towing Service.
Friday night and Saturday morning was spent discussing heavy trucks and the different problems they can present. We also talked about trucks and how they differ from regular passenger vehicles, especially in size and weight. Lunch was furnished by Coastline Rescue and then the class was moved to an open field where there were 3 stations to be worked.
One station involved a concrete truck turned sideways on a car, the 2 nd station consisted of a car under the rear of a garbage truck, and the 3 rd station was an overturned tractor trailer tanker. The students worked 2 of the 3 stations that afternoon, then the 3 rd on Sunday morning. These stations involved lifting and stabilizing. After lunch on Sunday, again furnished by Coastline Rescue, a larger scenario was set up for the entire class to work.
A vehicle was placed under the rear of the garbage truck and then the back of the car was placed under the front of the concrete truck. The students had to lift both trucks and then remove the doors and roof of the vehicle. The students did a great job utilizing different types of lifting and stabilizing. Phillips also demonstrated lifting, rotating and setting the tractor trailer back on its wheels. A very smooth and professional operation, I must say.
Our thanks go out to Coastline Rescue and Brunswick Community College for hosting and allowing this class to happen. Thanks also go out to Phillips towing for the use of their props and wreckers. The REDS Team enjoyed teaching this class as their were multiple departments represented at the class.
