Heavy Vehicle Rescue - Lenoir Rescue Squad

June 24th and 25th Lenoir Rescue Squad

box truck 3On June 24th & 25th myself and Assistant Chief Stuart Ferrell traveled up towards Hickory to Lenoir rescue Squad. We conducted a heavy vehicle rescue class starting out with classroom on Saturday. Saturday afternoon we moved to the wrecker yard to look at the vehicles we would be working on Sunday. We had 2 scenarios set up for our practical exercises.

On Sunday we worked on lifting and stabilizing. One scenario was a car resting underneath the rear bumper of a 53ft box trailer. They had to stabilize and lift the truck from the car. The exercise involved the use of cribbing, rescue jacks, a top over stabilization line with a picket anchor system and air bags.

The 2nd exercise was a flat bed cargo trailer resting on a car. Again stabilizing and lifting was performed. Good cribbing techniques were practiced along with lifting techniques. The members of Lenoir Rescue and the Lenoir Fire Department did an excellent job with the practical work and we thoroughly enjoyed working with them.
